I have been waiting for some information to come in in the last week or so to get some publicity happening for an upcoming gig (which features my band, Technical Symplicity), and it finally came through today.
Normally, I prefer to have about a month to play with when it comes to organising poster design/print/distribution, press releases, follow-ups etc etc, but those who know how the localised music industry works, there’s a lot of stuff that is “last minute”, which can be frustrating, but still doable.
Today I designed a poster…

designed by FoxPR
Now, in my opinion, a band poster needs to be eye-catching, say everything it needs to but not overdo it, and have something to do with a theme that one of the bands has (most of the time). I have seen band posters come in to me in rough form that are put together in Word…which is just ewww, and really won’t do.
With this poster, I decided to have a play on the whole Two Fists One Heart theme occurring (that’s a new Australian film from which the lead actor plays in the headlining band), which you can see with the two hands making a heart shape. I got all the images from the photo stock exchange, so I didn’t do any naughty internetery stealing.
I’ll print this out in A3 size, and it should look shmick, though one week to do a poster run is cutting it fine.
I also had received enough information to get a decent press release developed and distributed (pending on approval…always get approval from the clients, folks). The hook/angle used with the whole Australian actor in a band coming to this area should work wonders with the local entertainment media, which is who I will be targeting (obviously).
Once it’s published, I’ll post it on the foxpr.com.au website, so be sure to check back and to see how I went.
